I met my close friend yesterday whom I know since when I was a kid .I wouldnt be meeting her for a long time from now... she is going away abroad for her studies..
I have known her for 12 years... Thats a looonnnng time...! I cant believe that time has flown past so quickly...!! I have known her since we were in eigth grade...we opened my pass cards to tenth grade during the summer holidays, only to find that we both have been put in different divisions because the boards were coming up in tenth..... how we both cried for that!!! sounds silly now, though..
In eleventh and twelth grades, we both were in the same class, even though we were not allowed to sit together..! coz we were disturbing the entire class.. But i swear, we never did anything..!!! just these teachers' myths.... hmphh!..
TN37 7070: That was her sunny on which we have painted the streets of all the other schools were located (the co-ed and boys' schools) red...
Since ours was a girl's convent, no point in painting anything any color.... :) :D
there were a lot of memorable moments, including one when we whizzed past a group pf guys on the Liseaux school road, only to get the tyre punctured 2 meters ahead and ended up looking like a pair of fools..!!!
We were in different colleges,in the same city ... in different streams on engineering.. Our parents were relieved, they thought that the phone bills would come down and my parents thought i would stay more at home.. but we proved them wrong... Being in different colleges in the same city only gave us a chance to get to know each other's friends as well :) :)... There were people in my college who thought that I stayed in her area coz I used to get off from my bus there and go to her place before coming back to mine... Any cultural meet in her college and I would be there.. any meet in mine, she would be...!
I think she was the happiest when I got my first job on campus.. she insisted on coming over to my house and stayed with me that night...
Several memorable moments most of which would become a scandal if I put them down now.. Mr.D, Mr.A (s), the trip to vaidhegi falls, the trip to Kovai kutralam, campaigning for the ASPL elections in school, the moment when she was announced as the Assistant School Pupil leader etc etc are some of them...
After college, I relocated to where I'm now and she went up north for her job... There was a brief respite when we were not in touch with each other.. a period of around 3 months, the reasons for which I do not want to go into.. At the end of it there was no change in our relationship whatsoever..
We have had our share of fights and disagreements , some of which were quite serious.. but they all seem trivial somehow now.. I dont even remember the reasons for a lot of them.. There have been times when I was really mad at her for some things she did...
At the end of it all, she is still my greatest friend..
And now she is going abroad.. even though i know nothing between us is going to change, I'm feeling a little lost because even if she was not with me I always knew i could give her a ring any time.. now, even the time zone is going to be different!!
I didnt tell her yesterday to keep in touch or that I would miss her or that i'll be there for her... I dont have to because these go by default and we have never said such things to each other... All she told me was not to get married before she comes back.. and not to get desperate and find somebody to run away with.. and If i do find somebody to run away with, i better tell her and she ll get me tickets to Las Vegas and get me married there in one of those casinos..!! haha...
Personal experience tells me that it is difficult to find friends who really care for you once out of college. Mostly we make friendships with people for company and because we HAVE to. And our tendency to find faults has increased as we grow older and its not easy to accept people as they are.and most of the time we have to be hypocrites, masking our cynicism and dislike under a veneer of sophistication and manners for the sake of survival.. Most of us dont even like the people with whom we spend most of our time with and dont give a clue about it to the other person..
We dont even get to be ourselves with anybody.. apart from friends like these whom you dont have to look to for approval..
I hope situations will align themselves so that I get to talk to her once in a while.. Since we have the luxury of technology to fall back on, it wont be too much of a problem... Anyways, even if i speak to her only after a year from today, it wont make a single iota of difference.. that is the best part!
