Thoughts along the following lines have been running thro' my mind for the past several days..
How many times do we JUDGE others? Judge them positively or negatively for the way they work or the way they do things or they way they talk, basically for the way they are.... And what are the implications of such judgement? That we have already created a slot for them in our sub-conscience and put them inside it.. that we have already decided that these are the what the person is capable of, these are beyond the person's capability and either the person is good-for-nothing or he/she is ok.ok or that the person is toooo good ...
A typical example for this would be the following scenario: lets say that there is this neighbour of yours in office who is not-so-smart, who doesnot participate acttively in team activities, and who is not also good @ work... Lets say he/she is THE person in the team who is made to do the Donkey Work and ho bears the brunt of others' mistakes(we all know there is always one person per team who belongs to this category).. So, what do we judge of them? We assess that person, and then after a moment's thought discard him away and then whenever that person does something stupid, we look down upon him and think "My Goodness! how can a person BE like this?? Thank God I'm not so dumb!!!".......
But, do we really have any right to make any judgement on somebody? Who the hell are we to criticize/praise a person? Ok, before I proceed further, I have to say that I'm talking from a purely non-professional stand.. If you are a manager, then of course, you HAVE to judge your reportees and decide how capable they are etc etc.. But even then, nobody has the right to judge anybody as a person.... We are not GOD, for god's sake!!! :)... Everybody has his/her own faults.. and the rule:" The Pot cannot call the Kettle black" always applies.... Have we ever looked at ourself and seen our faults??? We have more then enough faults to spend an entire life-time correcting them and judging others is definitely a fault..
I had tried the following exercise for a while and found that it gives a great deal pf satisfaction to the mind: When any incident happens that allows you to judge a person, arrest your thoughts and do not look beyond its face-value. There is no need to base conclusions on incidents.. But this doesnot mean that you should forget the incident. What I'm trying to say is to treat an incident as just that - an incident and nothing else. And there occurs several situations in everyday life that lets you judge somebody. It happens sub-consiously- your mind looks, judges, stores the result and moves on.... its kinda difficult to stop this train of thoughts... I guess, it owuld be easier if you remember that each person has his own right and NO HUMAN BEING has the right to condemn or criticize somebody else as long as what the person does is not harmful to mankind..(a global cause!! lol..)
On trying this excercise, I somehow find that it is easier to accept others the way they are. When the sub-consious doesnot judge it does not condemn either.... and life is much more smoother..and you let go....
But one more thing : "DONT JUDGE" doesnot mean that you shouldnt stand up when any injustice is done. Stand up when somebody steps on your toes and dont allow anybody to take advantage of you...!!!
